"Last Sunday was the first time our family was unable to attend Mass due to the coronavirus. In an attempt to maintain a reverent attitude toward our Sunday privilege of Mass and also to try and keep things as normal as possible for the kids, we began the day with our usual routine: we ate at our usual time (keeping in mind fasting rules/time)and dressed up in our Sunday best. We selected a Mass that we could watch together on television and set up our family room using the kitchen table benches arranged like pews. Before beginning, we all blessed ourselves with holy water from church and then took our seats. From there, we tried to fully participate in the Mass: singing, sitting, standing, kneeling, and responding to the priest. The little ones were only allowed the few items they have with them when we attend Sunday Mass. During communion, we read the Spiritual Communion prayer aloud. We kneeled after the Recessional and said our usual prayers. Much to my children's dismay, I did not have any donuts on hand after we were finished! We all agreed that doing these practices made the experience of television Mass feel more interactive and gave us a sense of having participated. It was also fun to see the inside of a new church: St. Joseph's Cathedral in Sioux Falls!" -Allison
